Denise Elvish
National Liaison Officer
“I heard about WDP from my mother who was very involved, but I did not participate regularly till after I married and became a ‘clergy wife’ in 2002. Since then, I have assisted with and hosted local services and joined the State committee in 2011 after finishing my 6-year term of office as Mothers Union Diocesan president.
WA accepted their rotation as National committee for 2022-23 in November 2019 in Melbourne at the biannual national conference. Because it was during the COVID pandemic the 2021 National conference was held via Zoom at which I inducted as National Liaison Officer, we look forward to holding an in-person conference in 2023 in WA.
The Biannual International Conference this year was successfully conducted by the international committee via Zoom because of the complexity of travel restrictions due to the pandemic. It was a wonderful time of connecting with likeminded women from all around the world in prayer and worship while also planning the future of the organisation. It was very encouraging to witness how many young women are ‘stepping up’ and becoming a ‘voice for the future.’ The World Day of Prayer motto “informed prayer and prayerful action” being just as relevant today as when the organisation began 1927.”
