The 2008 World Day of Prayer Service
“The land of many waters”

The theme is “God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding”

This year’s artwork incorporates the Cacique Crown, the headdress worn by the chief of an Amerindian village or community. The Crown is the Crown of The Godhead – the wisdom, light rays, love and togetherness that are representative of the providence of God.

The differently shaped stick people joined in a circle at the base indicate God made us all differently. We are unique in our appearance, size, gifts, talents, colours and nationalities but together we represent His Diverse Nature as we are made in “His Image and Likeness”.

Although Guyana is located in South America, its historical experiences of slavery and indentureship have placed it in the politics and culture of the Caribbean. Consequently, Guyana is considered a part of the Caribbean. It is the only English-speaking country on this continent. Guyana is often described as the Caribbean gateway to South America.
